Today I am getting all of my things together to turn in for my project like my pictures, papers, my journal etc.
Yesterday I wrote my three paragraph paper, because my go for the green project is due tomorrow. I also made a couple of flyers to inform others about what I am doing for my go for the green project.

More about BAMBOO

This weekend I was doing some research on the best way to grow bamboo indoors. I found out that the best climate is a warm one (about 75 degrees). You also want to put your bamboo in a short and fat, gallon sized pot, this is because bamboo needs plenty of room to grow. I also learned that, after a few years you should gradually move the bamboo into a bigger pot.Last week I potted some of my own, and hopefully it will grow like my research said it should. If everyone grows their own bamboo it would be easier for the world to convert from wood to bamboo. The process seems easy enough,so will you do your part?

What a Surprise

Today I was walking in the mall just looking around, and I saw a little area where plants were being sold. I went over there and the only plant they were selling was bamboo! So I bought a few pieces that I will bring into class.

Preserving the Earth, One Project at A Time.....

Over the past few weeks I have been doing things with my project like making posters that explain why we should use bamboo instead of wood.  I've also been doing research about where and how to grow bamboo, so that I can eventually cultivate some of my own.  Hopefully, I will be able to bring some of it into class.  I have also been trying to find a source of publicity, this blog being one.  I think I am also going to put an awareness ad in the Midlothian Exchange newspaper that I get in the mail regularly.  This will help get information out about this, and other green initiatives that the community can become involved in.

The Reason I'm Blogging ........

My name is Jay Brown, and I'm a 12-year-old boy starting a blog for my math  project to go green, by using bamboo instead of wood.  I might blog about other things, but for now I want to talk about some of the benefits of bamboo.  One reason that I think bamboo should be used instead of wood is that it could help a lot to stop global warming.  Another reason is that it could help decrease air pollution, because bamboo is lighter than wood.  This simple fact means it would be much easier to carry it to other places by truck.   This way,  not as much exhaust will come out of the tail pipe and into the air, therefore decreasing air pollution.
We should also consider that bamboo grows about two times faster than trees that we get wood from. This means that we would be able to  stop cutting down the rain forests (and other tree-rich areas) so frequently if we used bamboo instead.  Because bamboo grows a lot faster than trees,  we could have more bamboo to use at a time, and produce more things that require wood, like houses,  furniture, wood floors, etc.  This could also have a positive effect on economy since we would be able to create more goods at a lower overall cost.  These are just some potential benefits of exchanging bamboo for wood that I will be discussing in my blog.  I hope you enjoy reading and comments are appreciated.  Let's all do our part to help conserve valuable resources.
